The power of manifestation...
Over the years, I’ve explored many teachings around personal growth, mindset, and manifestation — but recently, I watched a webinar that deeply resonated with me in a way that few teachings ever have. Presented by a leading neuroscientist - Emily McDonald or @emonthebrain - it shed light on how our brains can actually be rewired to create new realities, and how manifestation is deeply rooted in science, not just wishful thinking.
It inspired me so much that I felt compelled to share an overview of what I’ve learned, in hopes that it may open the door for you as well.

Manifestation: More Than Just Positive Thinking
Manifestation isn’t simply about thinking positive thoughts and hoping for the best. At its core, manifestation is about rewiring the neural pathways in your brain to align with the life you want to create. This means:
- Becoming conscious of your current beliefs and thought patterns
- Learning how your brain stores and repeats familiar narratives
- Deliberately choosing new, empowering thoughts that reflect your goals and desires
- Reinforcing those thoughts daily until they become your new subconscious programming
The mind is incredibly powerful. When you change your inner world, your external reality begins to shift accordingly. This is something Emily emphasises on. It has a lot to do with your conscious and subconscious mind. And while she teaches that repeatedly via her social media, she brings forth examples and reasons as to why you do things or think things the way you do.
The Science Behind It
What struck me most in the webinar was how the brain’s neuroplasticity allows us to change deeply ingrained patterns at any stage of life. Every time we think a thought, we strengthen a neural pathway. The more often we repeat it, the stronger it becomes. Emily mentions in the webinar how your subconscious brain is like an algorithm. It filters out 99% of your reality, only letting in what your subconscious believes to be true. Like an algorithm, you only see what you’re constantly seeking.
Let me elaborate. If you’ve spent years thinking:
- "I’m not good enough."
- "I’ll never achieve that."
- "I’m stuck."
— those thoughts have literally carved strong pathways in your brain. Your subconscious mind will always filter out anything positive (even if it's right there in front of you) and process only the negative thoughts.
But the beautiful truth is: you can build new ones. With conscious repetition, emotional regulation, and consistency, you can train your brain to believe:
- "I am capable."
- "Abundance flows to me."
- "My life is unfolding exactly as it should."
She does dig deeper in the science behind your conscious and subconscious mind. You guys can actually sign up to her webinar when available. They're for free, and last around 1-2 hours with information so valuable, you'll be surprised she's sharing it for free. Check out her website for more information.
The Role of Emotion & Visualisation
Another key aspect is the role emotion plays in manifestation. Thoughts paired with emotion become powerful signals to the brain. Visualisation techniques, affirmations, and daily mental rehearsal allow your brain to begin experiencing your desired outcome as if it were already real — making it much more likely to manifest into your physical world.
In the webinar, Emily mentions how the subconscious mind feeds off of a network of systems. Meaning, it doesn't only work with on one area in your mind and body. In fact, there are a number of networks the subconscious mind works with that are responsible for different parts of your programming.
The Limbic System
One of these networks is the Limbic System - which is responsible for the:
- emotions
- memory
- and stress response.
The amygdala is a part of the brain responsible for processing fear, anxiety, and emotional memory. Much of what it stores operates at a subconscious level, quietly influencing your thoughts, reactions, and behaviours without you even realising it.
If you often find yourself reacting impulsively, feeling easily overwhelmed, or experiencing heightened anxiety, it may stem from past experiences that have shaped these automatic responses.
The good news is - your brain isn’t fixed. Through awareness and intentional practice, you can begin to rewire these automatic patterns. This is where tools like mindfulness, visualisation, and reframing your thoughts become powerful.
By gently training your mind to respond differently, you slowly create new pathways that support calm, confidence, and clarity — rather than fear or anxiety.
My Personal Reflection
After watching some of her Instagram reels, and finally listening in on her webinar - I finally understood the 'real' science behind manifestation and it's power to change your life.
Yes, we hear the word manifestation so often - but we don't actually understand the how. Many people tell you to do things such as 'daily affirmations, vision boards, etc' without the why or how it works. Therefore, it leaves a place in your mind continuously wondering if what you're doing is even valid.
It becomes so much clearer now: the way we live is truly shaped by the way we think. We don’t just live in a physical reality — we live in a mental reality, one that is filtered and experienced through the way our brain has been wired. Much of what holds us back doesn’t come from the outside world, but from patterns deeply stored in our subconscious mind — many of which were programmed in us from a very young age.
It's Not Your Eyes That See
Emily mentions in one of her reels that our eyes aren't what actually make us 'see' the world. They're a mere pathway to what our brain sees. How we think, how we feel. It's all in our mind. And if we can make an effort to want to change, and be better for ourselves and people around us, we can literally change our lives for the better.
We often use the word imagine — and what we imagine is simply our mind showing us what’s possible. But too often, fear and anxiety step in and make those possibilities feel out of reach. What we don’t always realise is that we have the power to change that narrative too. The same mind that creates fear can also create confidence, peace, and possibility — once we learn how to guide it.
Islam and Manifestation
I wanted to include this section to solidify this further.
Islam is the crux of our lives. As Muslim women, any decision, any choice, any movement we make is to be aligned with Islam and the remembrance of Allah (swt).
What many people don't realise though, is that manifestation is a PART of Islam. The word we use however, is Tawakkul. Which means the 'complete reliance on Allah (swt) after taking necessary steps'. To manifest is to simply believe you can achieve something and putting in the work to do it. But knowing with all your heart that Allah (swt) is the disposer of all your affairs and He and only He can make that happen.
By believing full-heartedly that Allah (swt) has the power to make your dreams come true, and applying the necessary steps such as actually putting in the work, praying, making duaa, and fully believing He will, then best you know that Allah (swt) will leave no prayer and no duaa unanswered.
In fact, He will mould you into the person you need to be, in order to achieved your desires. He will put you in situations to help you grow, learn and flourish so you appreciate the journey leading you to accomplishing your dreams.
Ultimately, it's not about achieving the end goal. It's appreciating the journey. Without it, you'll never be the person you needed to be at that moment once everything you've dreamed for is available to you. As they say, there is value in things we can't easily have. A marketing strategy many businesses use to spike sales. When there is a high demand and low supply, prices bump up and the 'want' automatically becomes a 'need'.
Want to Learn More?
I highly encourage every woman who desires to take control of their life and unlock their full potential to learn directly from her teachings. The knowledge she shares is truly transformative.
Her work combines science, psychology, and spirituality in a way that makes true, lasting change feel possible — and attainable.
When we understand that much of our reality is shaped by our thoughts and subconscious patterns, we open the door to true change — change that begins from within. But how do we quiet the mind, release the grip of the past, and fully embrace the present moment? This is where The Power of Now offers profound insight.
If you’re ready to take this understanding even deeper, I invite you to read my article on The Power of Now. A book that beautifully explores how living in the present moment can transform the way we experience life entirely.
